Warning

General information

Tablets and capsules are Formulary antimicrobials: Use in accordance with Trust guidelines. 

Injection is Restricted formulary antimicrobial: For details see OUH netFormulary

AWaRe antibiotic classification: 'Access'. Use as per guidelines.

Renal and hepatic impairment

Renal impairment 

No dose adjustment required in renal impairment. Not dialysed.

 

Hepatic impairment

Doxycycline should be avoided or used with caution in patients with hepatic impairment. Doxycycline should also be used with caution in those receiving potentially hepatotoxic drugs.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy 

Doxycycline is contra-indicated in pregnancy due to its teratogenic side effects.

Breastfeeding

It should not be given to women who are breastfeeding.
