Interactions
- Tizoxanide (the active metabolite of nitazoxanide) is highly bound to plasma protein (more than 99.9%) therefore may interact with other highly plasma protein-bound drugs with narrow therapeutic window, such as warfarin, phenytoin or digoxin. Therapeutic drug monitoring may be needed in certain cases. Monitor for adverse reactions.
- Food enhances the bioavailability of the pharmacologically active metabolite tizoxanide. Nitazoxanide should be taken just after eating food. Do not take it on an empty stomach.
This is not a complete list. Please see the Summary of Product Characteristics or speak to a pharmacist.
