BAHA placement + Cochlear implant, post-procedure

NO post-operative antibiotics required. 

 

Patients with cochlear implant should receive Pneumococcal Vaccine (Pneumovax^®).

Preferred (including penicillin allergy non-severe): 

cefalexin 500mg po tds for 3 days

AND

topical ciprofloxacin 0.3% ear drops three drops tds to affected ear(s) for 3 weeks

 

Alternative for penicillin allergy severe: 

doxycycline 100mg po bd for 3 days

AND

topical ciprofloxacin 0.3% ear drops three drops tds to affected ear(s) for 3 weeks

 

Consider penicillin allergy assessment and delabelling
