Prophylaxis for intravascular catheter related infections

The prophylactic line lock agents used at OUHFT depend on the indication, as shown below.

 

A prophylactic line lock should only be used for:

1. Patients on haemodialysis (Citra-Lock S^®).
2. Critical care areas for locking haemodialysis/ haemofiltration lines in renal replacement therapy (Taurolock Hep 500^®)
3. Selected patients on TPN under the direction of the adult nutrition team (Taurolock Classic^®).
4. If specifically recommended by Micro/ID.

 

Citra-Lock S^® contains trisodium citrate.

Taurolock^® contains taurolidine (a broad spectrum antimicrobial) and citrate (an anticoagulant).
