Adult
Influenza prophylaxis
- Usually following advice from Micro/ID team or Infection Prevention and Control nurse.
- All use must be as per UKHSA guidance on use of antiviral agents for the treatment and prophylaxis of seasonal influenza, i.e.
- National surveillance schemes have indicated that influenza virus is circulating AND;
- The person has been exposed to an index case (close contact in a hospital, household or residential setting) AND;
- Able to begin prophylaxis within 48hours AND;
- Patient is at risk of complicated influenza
Any use outside of this should be discussed with Micro/ID consultant or registrar
Preferred
oseltamivir 75mg po od for 10 days
- For dosing in adult patients 40kg or less: 60mg od for 10 days
