Influenza prophylaxis

• Usually following advice from Micro/ID team or Infection Prevention and Control nurse. 
• All use must be as per UKHSA guidance on use of antiviral agents for the treatment and prophylaxis of seasonal influenza, i.e.
  • National surveillance schemes have indicated that influenza virus is circulating AND;
  • The person has been exposed to an index case (close contact in a hospital, household or residential setting) AND;
  • Able to begin prophylaxis within 48hours AND;
  • Patient is at risk of complicated influenza

Any use outside of this should be discussed with Micro/ID consultant or registrar
