Adult
Influenza prophylaxis
- Usually following advice from Micro/ID team or Infection Prevention and Control nurse.
- All use must be as per UKHSA guidance on use of antiviral agents for the treatment and prophylaxis of seasonal influenza, i.e.
- National surveillance schemes have indicated that influenza virus is circulating AND;
- The person has been exposed (close contact in a household or residential setting) to an index case AND;
- Able to begin prophylaxis within 48hours AND;
- Patient is at risk of complicated influenza AND;
- Vaccine not well matched to the circulating strain OR there has been less than 14 days between vaccination and date of contact with influenza
Any use outside of this should be discussed with Micro/ID consultant or registrar
Preferred
oseltamivir 75mg po od for 10 days
- For dosing in adult patients 40kg or less: 60mg od for 10 days
