Epidural analgesia involves the injection and infusion of local anaesthetic +/- low dose opioid into the epidural space.

There are 2 types of epidural infusates used in the OUH:

• bupivacaine 0.1% with fentanyl 2mcg/ml

• bupivacaine 0.125% plain - when epidural opioids would not be appropriate, e.g. if the patient has intravenous opioid patient-controlled analgesia (PCA) in addition
