The information contained in this Oxford PainGuide was collated by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and reflects internal processes and procedures of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Guidance was formally updated on 21st February 2018 and the content approved by the OUH Medicines Management and Therapeutics Committee on the same date. Subsequent updates reflect changing evidence and changing need for guidance.

Scope

The Oxford PainGuide is designed as a support and reference tool for health professionals working within Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT) and it is only intended for use as a support and reference tool.  In particular, users must:

  1. Be aware that the Guidance does not take into account the individual circumstances of a patient and may not contain all the information required. It must not be used as the sole basis for prescribing any drugs or for the care of any patient. Updates may be released periodically and it is up to the user to ensure they are using the most up to date version available.
  2. Be aware that other hospitals have their own guidance documents in relation to the subject matter of this Guidance. Such guidance documents should be used by persons working in hospitals other than OUHFT and, in these circumstances, the guidance contained in such documents takes precedence to any information supplied within this Guidance.
  3. The Guidance contains recommendations concerning controlled drugs.  If used outside the OUHFT ensure that prescribing complies with procedures set in place by the local Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer.
